For over 25 years, Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) has become a popular way for consumers to buy local, seasonal food directly from a farmer or group of farmers. What this means is a farmer offers a certain number of "shares" to the public. Typically the share consists of a box of vegetables, but other farm products may be included. Interested consumers purchase a share (aka a "membership" or a "subscription") and in return receive a box (bag, basket) of seasonal produce each week throughout the farming season.
In our CSA share, your produce comes directly from a group of local farmers and food producers that are members of Capital City Farmers Market. These growers and producers do not produce enough product to offer their own individual CSA so they have joined together as a group to offer your family local products. Because these farmers are members of Capital City Farmers market, you know who is growing your food and how.
Eat Local! We follow a strict food safety plan and store all of our produce in a clean, climate controlled facility. We pride ourselves on providing a variety of products which will allows you to not only enjoy fresh foods that are familiar to you but to also help you and your family explore some new foods and learn to cook with them. We look forward to sharing some of our favorite recipes with you that are not only easy but delicious as well! We take quality and customer service very seriously, and if for some reason you are not satisfied with a product in your weekly share, we welcome your feedback and will do everything in our power to make sure you’re pleased.
What subscriptions are available? We are offering two different share boxes, the “Stockman” will contain protein items like beef, pork, chicken, turkey and eggs. The “Stockman” share will be a monthly subscription and will be available for 12 months. Our “Garden harvest” shares are available for a 15 week season and will primarily contain vegetables but may include fruit and occasional artisan product such as baked goods, jams or jellies. Our goal is to have enough products for a family of four.
How do I get my box? Each week or month depending on which box you purchase, you will come into the Capital City Farmers Market and pick up your box. If you purchase both boxes we can make sure you can pick them up at the same time to save you a trip. Also, included in the box will be a newsletter with recipes and information about the farm your food is from.
How much do the boxes cost? A subscription for the Garden harvest is $30/week + tax and the Stockman is $50/month+ tax. There is also an initial deposit for each subscription which will be $30 for the Garden Harvest and $50 for the Stockman. The deposit will cover your last week in your subscription or you can roll over your deposit for the next season. You can pay on line or at the market when you pick up your box. You are also welcome to make one payment for the season.
